BOOK DESIGN

Book Layout

For one of my freelance clients, I helped to lay out a book with over 200 pages. Because of the size of the project, I used Adobe InDesign to take advantage of the great multiple-page document features. I began by looking at examples, especially ones the client liked, and sketching some basic layouts. Next, I created a template in InDesign that included all of the paragraph and character styles. After the template was complete and approved by the client, I began adding all of the book's text and images.

Below is an example of some of the pages from the book:

Figures

As part of the process of designing the book, I was asked to create figures of maps for use in the book. Each figure was created using Adobe Photoshop, using reference collected by the author.
